Plucked at Béal na Bláth: The Mouth of Flowers

Wild mountain flower cut down in full bloom
Shoulders of oak supporting pure granite
Black bicycle black suit black shoes
Black and tans
Wild West Cork blood
Wild heart pounding
Spiderly weaving the silken thread
Nursing a nation’s gaping wound
Exuberant and childlike
A March hare contorting predacious hounds
Indigenous as wild watercress
Obscure like the Bean Sidhe
Wild Celt tragically innocent
Endowed with lupine instinct
Kindred brother of Setanta
Vivacious amongst the smitten roses
Plucked at Béal na Bláth
The mouth of flowers
Wild flowers!
